10 dead in 3 storied building collapses in Thane District Maharashtra. 20-25 people are still trapped

Mumbai: News (21.09.2020) Ten people were killed when a three-story building collapsed in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra's Thane district. The three-storied Gilani building at Patel compound in Narpoli, Bhiwandi, collapsed at around 3.40 am on Monday while the residents were asleep. Fifteen people were injured in the accident. Twenty-five people were rescued by locals and officials from the wreckage.

According to preliminary reports, 20-25 people are still trapped. Rescue operations by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are still ongoing

"The loss of lives in the building collapse incident at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra is quite distressing. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with victims. I wish speedy recovery of the injured. Local authorities coordinating rescue and relief efforts," said President Ram Nath Kovind. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the incident. "Saddened by the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for a quick recovery of those injured. Rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected," he said.
